What is Stress ?

Stress is the unpleasant reaction people have to excessive pressure. It is the feeling that we are out of control and cannot cope. The stress reaction is entirely natural; it is the age old survival response designed to give us a surge of strength to fight off danger or run away from it.

It is crucial to understand that stress is not the same as pressure. Quite often people can be heard to say that they have had a really stressful day, but they are also happy that they have been able to cope with that 'stress'. Pressure is normal and is usually healthy, stimulating an individual to succeed, which in turns gives satisfaction.
